Chapter 6

Sitting at the table with Luca, Carina was ravenous. She squirmed in her chair as she looked over the delicious display in front of her. Everything looked so yummy!

“What would you like, Carina?”

“I can help myself.”

“No, Little one. I will help you. These plates are heavy.” Her stomach growled loudly as he paused. “How about a bit of everything? Then you can have more of your favorites?”

“Please,” she requested. As she watched, he added a generous spoonful of the two salads and a half a sandwich of what appeared to be turkey and roast beef. When he set it down before her, she reached for one of the sandwiches before making herself wait for him to fill his plate.

“Eat, Carina.”

“I don’t want to be rude,” she protested.

“You’re hungry. We’re alone here. Eat.”

Immediately, she caved and picked up the turkey sandwich. Taking a huge bite, she hummed at the delicious taste. It wasn’t like the simple sandwiches she fixed at home. This was laden with all types of additions: lettuce, tomato, even avocado.

“Good, huh?”

“I love avocado,” she mumbled around her biteful, covering her hand over her mouth as politely as possible.

“I’ll be sure to tell the kitchen that so they can have avocados on hand. I love them stuffed with seafood salad. Have you tried that?” Luca asked as he set a much more laden plate down in front of himself.

She watched him stab a fork into the broccoli salad and carry it to his mouth. Images of Luca’s lips caressing her intimately burst into her mind. To her embarrassment, she felt her face heat and knew that he could tell the directions of her thoughts. Ripping her gaze away, Carina swallowed hard. As the food caught in her throat, she reached for the cup before her and took a large drink.

His chuckle brought her attention back to his face. “I’m glad you enjoy our playtime, sweet Valentine. I am looking forward to being buried deep inside you soon.”

“Luca!” she said scandalized by his blunt language at the table.

“Daddy,” he corrected automatically. “We are alone. Here we can speak confidentially. How is your tummy?”

Carina took time to sample the broccoli salad as well. This was one of her favorite concoctions. Again, she wiggled in her chair without planning to move. She considered his question as she chewed. Her stomach did feel better. Not wanting to encourage him, she swallowed and answered, “It’s okay.”

“I’ll schedule in another cleaning tomorrow,” he answered without missing a beat.

Looking at him in horror, she blurted, “It’s better, okay? I don’t need any more.”

“If you are not sure that it made a significant difference, then Dr. Hendricks prescribed another round of treatment.”

“Daddy, I’m great. My stomach feels much better. I didn’t want to encourage you for the future. And…” she stopped wave a hand at the luncheon before them. “Is this really the time to have a discussion about this?”

“Yes. We are alone. No one else is here. I could wait and bring it up at our wedding reception if you’d prefer,” Luca suggested with a raised eyebrow.
